How to Know if You are Too Sensitive or Not

I am often overwhelmed by sensory input--such as seeing two goats riding a tandem bicycle. This overcomes me I cannot help it.

I am struck by the simplest of changes in my environment--such as a cloud that doesn't look symmetrical or a waterfall that runs not only backwards but does it only during Civic Holidays in Belgrade.

Days which are too bright make me crawl back into bed and visualize a blueprint of the Statue of Liberty doing 'the Dogie'.

I cannot drink coffee as it is so stimulating to me that should I consume it, my hair stands on end and spells out the worlds 'take two aspirins for headache' in ancient Urdu.

You might say I am too SENSITIVE.

But are YOU too sensitive ?

Do you run every time you see a nun doing cartwheels across a busy intersection?

Do you get upset if you see a guy wearing sandals--over his socks?

Are you terrified of being touched by someone at the vegetable-counter who has a degree in European metaphysics?

Are you always on the lookout for people who claim the traffic lights are synchronized against drivers who's names begin with the letter 'E' ?

These are all psychiatric definitions of the concept 'being too sensitive.'

At this point you may be asking what you can do to prevent your over-reactions, your over-stimulation, your 'going over the top' with things you see that others do not even react to.

Well have no fear. If you are too sensitive there are a number of things that can be done inorder to allievate your suffering and minimize your sensitivity.

1. Wear blinkers at all times--the kind horses wear when they are running a race. This will reduce the peripheral stimulation which you are likely to come across, and as a result reduce your sensitivity incidents--or as we scientists call it--the S.I. quotient.
2. If you can afford to pay someone, or if you have a companion or one of your servants, or anyone at all who is willing to walk ahead of you with a sign that reads, in big,bold letters "OVER SENSITIVE PERSON APPROACHING--PLEASE DO NOTHING to FRIGHTEN,SURPRISE,or OTHERWISE STARTLE THEM!" then you will find yourself being far less over-sensitized.
3. Wear rubber gloves at all times, so as to lessen your shock from having to touch things, and it's a good idea to wear thick sponges tied to your feet instead of shoes, which do not absorb the shock of walking half so well as a pair of thick sponges.
4. Don't watch Reality TV, sports events, the news,or crime shoes. Above all never watch Glen Beck--he will set your sensitivity meter right off the scale. Instead find the fireplace station, and enjoy the flames as they endlessly, predictably, burn the logs. Nothing to sensitize you there!

Should worse come to worse,find a big card board box, and just crawl in. Have your mail forwarded and take your blackberry so you can order pizza.
